Understanding how a writers mind operates, is a journey. We make ourselves comfortable under mountains of words. We make alliances among the pages of books. We find comfort in between a full stop and the next capital letter. We feel in italics and reflect in capitals, and it doesn’t end there. We have an obsession for the written word. Words dangle from our fingers. But that’s not all... The magic we make on the pages, we can duplicate in the real world.
We are prisoners of our impulses, we do not decide who we are. Initially, we are thinkers, over-thinkers to be precise. There are oceans of thoughts ever-flowing through our minds. We think forward, backward and sideways.
Crazy questions race through our minds. Gradually, these thoughts become a state of mind. There are always entirely too many thoughts, more than our little cerebral hemispheres could contain. Then it comes down to one thing, words.
We write because we have to. It calls us. We write because if we don’t, our thoughts might dissolve us like acid disintegrating bare flesh. This is because, when there is excess of something, it needs an outlet, or it will destroy its container. We are containers of thoughts and words are our outlets. Characters speak to us and we listen. Words keep our beliefs and desires from destroying us. We find all our answers in what we bleed out as words.
We live by metaphorical resonances. We admire the world from the outside and observe its people and things. We really could spend our entire lives looking at people and listening to their weird conversations.
Even with the lights off and our eyes closed, we never really stop writing. There are conversations and concepts in our mind that keep running with the blood, until the synapses in our brain collapse into sleep. Dreams become our playground. Daydreams are the reminisces of what was once started during our slumber.
We look at the world differently from others. We perceive things in a unique way. We don’t see things plainly, and rather we fall in love with the colors, sounds and energies that surround us. There are no bars for our imagination. Our bodies might be stationary, but our minds have traveled as far as universe permits us.
A writer has an entire world inside one person.
So thank you, for taking time out of your day to experience a world unknown. My world.
